Watercolor and Words
LAYERED WATERCOLOR HEART ART by Tiffany Windsor
Having grown up in a creative family (my mom is Aleene’s Tacky Glue), I have had the wonderful opportunity to express myself creatively since as far back as I can remember. As I matured into my own creative expression, there are many different mediums that have interested me but none quite as much as fired clay.
My sister sparked my interest in clay when she bought a slab roller. A few years ago, I was able to spend some extra time in her studio and dig into her clay stash.
I loved rolling the clay and stamping designs. What emerged through those months of clay play, was a line of hearts, inspired words and crosses wall art. It was a magical creative time. When she moved out of state, all of my supplies moved with her and my creativity was non-existent.
When I relocated to Tennessee and set up my own creative studio, I thought it would be a perfect time to add a few items to my (then) small creative stash and that always starts with stamps. Alphabet and word stamps are my favorite. I grabbed some inexpensive watercolors and decided to create new heart art that is inspired by my clay work.
SUPPLIES:
Watercolors
Watercolor paper
Brush & water
Micron Black Pen .05
Pencil
Scissors
Aleene’s Tacky Glue
Frame (I purchased from Dollar Tree)
Optional: alphabet rubber stamps or alphabet stickers
Brush water onto your paper from edge to edge.
Dip brush in water and swirl onto watercolor of your choice to pick up color on the brush.
Draw brush across paper in small sections. Repeat to cover entire paper with a rainbow of colors! Let dry.
The wood grain look is created in the same way with lines of color. I also used a dry background technique for some of the lines of colors.
Sketch largest heart onto painted paper with pencil. Cut inside the pattern line (so that you don’t have to erase the pencil later.)
Using your large heart for the pattern for the next layer, cut away more along the edge so that each heart layer is smaller and smaller.
Use black pen to draw accent lines on each piece
Glue onto background paper (wood grain look).
Place into frame.
Enjoy the love!
