Our

information and pictures
Did you know?
The polka dot
is a
pattern consisting of
a series of dots that are equally spaced and sized. While
polka dots are ancient, they first became common on clothing
in the late nineteenth century in
Britain. At the same
time
polka music was
extremely popular and the name was also applied to the
pattern, despite no real connection between them. For many
of us, the most famous polka dots came in the form of a song
by Brian Hyland in 1960: the famous "Itsy Bitsy Teenie
Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini." Walt Disney who needed to
give Minnie Mouse a unique fashion statement all of her own
chose the polka dot. The term "polka dot" first appeared in
the New York Times on |

Carton Catchers from
replayground.com. They take scrap and make it new or
stuff made into other stuff. I love their recycle kits
called "Remake-its" that are very clever and an inspiring
way to recycle. Magazine stationery, wine cork trivet,
bottle lamp, and bottle cap magnets. Check it out! >>Heidi |

This bright and fun
Flower Mask was created by our sister Heidi Borchers.
She created it for our recent Fairie Festival. Starting with
a wooden mask from the local craft store, she embellished it
with scrapbook papers. Now that's fast and fun! >>Candace |

Denise
Clason has been an artist and designer since she
was 10 years old. She started her own sewing and alterations
business at the age of 16 and later studied interior design
and clothing and textiles in college.
Denise is the originator of the Stitchin' Up the Pieces
fruit and quilt buttons, licensed by JHB International.
These buttons are individual pieces that when grouped
together create unique quilt blocks. On this week's
Inspired at Home Radio show, Denise shares her
insights about how designers can get their designs published.

My pick for the final few this week is
My pick this week is
Last
week, Green Doreen talked about people who litter with
cigarette butts. So with that fresh on my mind, as I was
driving home earlier this week, I was reminded that I live
in an area that has a large litter problem. So many people
here in our area on the Chesapeake Bay litter and don’t
think twice about it! I have seen people throw their fast
food lunch containers right out the window, teens drop
litter as they walk by our store, beer bottles are tossed
out car windows all the time and a big offender is people
hauling trash to the dump (which is on my way to work) which
results in trash blowing all over the road.
