I just love this Shoulder Bag with beaded trim by Yvonne Deux from kuningroup.com. I love felt! t is probably the most used craft product there is. Believe it or not - felt has been around for 100 years. It's so versatile and comes in amazing designs and you can now even find it with embossed designs on it! My project pick this week comes from Fiskars.com. This pretty Butterfly Applique is created with felt and embellished with tiny seed beeds. Stitch it onto your wearable with a blanket stitch! Cute!>>Tiff

The 3/50 Project is the brainchild of Cinda Baxter who was an independent stationery store owner for 14 years. She understood the recent pain felt by retailers as the economy sank and consumers held back. So, she came up with the 3/50 Project to help you understand how to save your local economy three stores at a time. This project is shopping in locally owned businesses and here’s how it works: 3 – think about which three independently owned businesses you’d miss most if they were gone. Stop in and say hello. Next up 50 -- as in spending $50 dollars. If just half the employed U.S. population spent $50 each monthly in independently owned businesses, their purchases would generate more than $42.6 billion in revenue. Imagine the positive impact if only ¾ of the employed population did just that. Did you know that for every $100 spent in independently owned stores, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll, and other expenditures. If you spend that in a national chain, only $43 stays your community. Spend it online and nothing comes home. So pick 3 local businesses, spend $50 a month total and help to save your local economy.

Have you heard about the CHA Craft SuperShow? This is a new consumer show which will be held in Orlando, Florida on Friday and Saturday July 31st and August 1st. This Craft SuperShow will be a place where people can visit with and learn from craft manufacturers, buy products from craft retailers and purchase finished projects from designers and professional crafters. Lea Cioci, CPD, CPT is the author of Creative Art Concepts for Papercrafts: An Effortless Approach to Fine Arts Techniques. Her interview topic discussion is "everyone is creative". Her book is filled with techniques geared towards self-exploration with many fine art materials and paper arts media. Innovative ways to use color and texture in your art, quick projects with ideas that inspire with twists of old and new, done in an easy free-form manner. Lea is a freelance designer, demo artist and Creative Art Concepts for Papercrafts instructor and design consultant to several companies in the hobby industry. Currently, Lea is also a Ranger Ink Educator. Lea's journey led her to the creation of stamp images to give the artist the freedom to create a very personal self-expression. Lisa Sanford is the author of Ethnic Scrapbooking- a new idea book Connecting People and Cultures. Did you know that lacquer work was one of the earliest industrial arts of Asia? In Japan, an Imperial Lacquer department was established in the 4th century BC. Buddhist monasteries encouraged the art and now preserve some of the oldest pieces in a temple near Nara, Japan.

Let's hear it for the CSA's! [Rah! BIG cheer!] Over the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Basically, how it works is that a family buys "shares" from a farmer. The shares typically consist of a box of fresh vegetables each week through the growing season. Besides eating ultra-fresh food with all the flavor and vitamin benefits, there are many more benefits. Check out localharvest.org to find out a CSA in your area and eat fresh & healthy!>>Tiffany

Our challenge from Green Doreen Liccione this week saving energy! Did you know about 90% of the energy used for washing clothes in a conventional top-load washer is for heating the water? There are two ways to reduce the amount of energy used for washing clothes—use less water and use cooler water. Unless you're dealing with oily stains, the warm or cold water setting on your machine will generally do a good job of cleaning your clothes. Switching your temperature setting from hot to warm can cut a load's energy use in half.
