Soothing the Glue Gun Burns - naturally!

How many of
us have burned ourselves with our glue guns at one time or another?
I know better but I always stick my finger in my project to hold
something. I have found that the best way to deal with a
burn from the glue gun is fresh aloe vera. Add an aloe vera plant at home to use in the kitchen and in your craft room. If
you apply the aloe vera gel immediately (by breaking open the leaf)
it can keep the burn from blistering. I have had some doozies of
glue gun burns in the past and, believe me, aloe vera works!
Even if you don't get the aloe vera gel on immediately, you can find some really great soothing results after the fact! Ask Tiffany about this! She burned her finger with the glue gun and hours later while looking at the blister, she wrapped the aloe vera leaf around her thumb and then wrapped a paper towel around and held it there for about an hour. Guess what! The blister went down completely and the aloe vera completely removed the sting and by the next day, the blister turned into a toughened callous.
Aloe vera
helps accelerate wound healing, is said to inhibit inflammation,
stop minor bleeding and helps cure eczema, sunburn and minor burns.
This plant promotes regeneration of skin and speeds healing
of minor wounds. Many commercial products have aloe vera as an
ingredient because it works so well.
Did you
know that this plant is really easy to care for as it should only be
watered every two weeks during the spring and summer and only once a
month during the winter? It is said that a 2-3 year old aloe plant
is thought to be the most therapeutic but I have found that the aloe
vera gel from even a tiny aloe plant works wonders on blisters.
Here's a couple of great Aloe Vera Salve recipes:
Pour 1 cup
of boiling water over 1 teaspoon of black pekoe tea and 1 tablespoon
of Irish moss. Allow this mixture to sit until cool. Then add 3
tablespoons of aloe Vera gel. Mix well and store in jar until needed
for burns or sunburn. (The Irish moss thickens the mixture so it
resembles salve.)
Aloe Vera
Salve recipe #2 – simmer 4 teaspoons of Irish moss in 1 pint of
water for 10 minutes. Strain and add juice and pulp of 5 large aloe
vera leaves. Place into jar for later use.
The aloe vera fights infection and it speed healing of skin
tissue.
If you don’t have an aloe plant around. . .
then plan
on having a bottle of lavender essential oil on hand for burns. You
can put lavender oil directly on the skin and it will help with
burns, sunburns, nerve pain, insomnia, skin irritations and is
wonderful to add to the washer’s final rinse to scent your laundry.
It can also be used in your dryer to scent your linens. Lavender
essential oil is a powerful antiseptic containing over 200 compounds
that are effective against fungus, viruses and other microbes.
And
finally. . .
If you have
none of the above, then try using a raw potato. Scrape a raw potato
and apply to burn. Reapply as potato dries out.
Yogurt can
also be used to relieve the pain of a burn quickly.
Apple Cider
vinegar – soak a bandage or cloth in vinegar and place over burn or
apply the vinegar directly to burn.
Apple
Butter – Cool the burn first with cool water then apply a paste of
apple butter. Reapply as apple butter dries out.
