![]() From Aleene's autobiography, Aleene, A Tacky Lady: "At the time, I was doing a lot of television, and it was easy for me to get bookings in advance of our appearances. I would contact either the news departments, or the "Women's Page" editors of TV stations, newspapers and radio stations, and it wasn't unusual for me to be on three or four different shows in one city a day or so before our scheduled events. Usually I did five-minute segments showing the kinds of things that they would see demonstrated at our event the next day." |
The Craftmaker's Caravan The first Craftmaker's Caravan show was in Pasadena, California and Aleene quickly knew that she had a winning idea on her hands. The crowds of over 20,000 people lined up 5 deep around the block at the Pasadena Convention Center. The free event was promoted on local television and newspapers. She was lucky that Pasadena was the first event, because it was close to home [the Aleene's business at the time was located in Temple City, California] because when she ran out of materials, staff could run over to the warehouse to get more boxes of instruction sheets, instruction books and crafting supplies. |
